It was spring
a good frog strangling rain on the horizon
a mad beau strangling father on the porch
his shotgun in hand, the trigger cocked
screaming for them to get back
They ran until they could run no more
fear fueling their strides
The rain falling around them in sheets
as the rumble of thunder
deadened the sound of their barefeet
as they slap- slopped along the road
running to escape, running to be one
two souls, exhausted, worn-down
from miles of mud running
fathers yellin, bullets flyin
they had ran, were running now
their souls locked in eternal hell
the shots they just heard
had pierced their hearts
but for one last, loving kiss
they collapsed
as one.
